The NPP government has lost its way – Ato Forson

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, has ascribed the recent devaluation of the Ghanaian Cedi versus the dollar to the current government’s reckless spending.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on May 16, 2024, the Minority Leader stated that as elections near, the government’s spending has been reckless, with little concern for the long-term economic consequences.

“We are going to take this matter very seriously. We believe that the government has lost its way. They are being very myopic, and short-sighted indeed. Because of the elections, they are taking actions that are going to be inimical to the development of our country,” he stated.

As parliament is scheduled to resume tomorrow, May 17, Dr. Ato Forson announced that as a caucus, they will investigate the alternatives available to them to take additional action against the government.

“We will look at our options available to us and then we will take action tomorrow,” he stated.

The minority leader’s comments come at a critical time, as Ghana’s currency continues to fall against the dollar, prompting fears about the possible impact on the economy and Ghanaians’ livelihoods.

Currently, the Ghana Cedis is valued at GH¢ 15.00 to $1.
