You are broke you can’t avoid trumu trumu – Ghana told

Social commentator Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, believes that Ghana cannot make LGBTQI+ and its related activities illegal.

According to him, the country is broke and not self-sufficient enough to be able to decide against what the Western countries want.

He says that as long as Ghana continues to depend on aid, there is no way the West African country can reject the Western culture being pushed on them.

“Akufo-Addo will not sign this bill. You will engage in trumu trumu in Ghana no matter what. Why? Because you don’t have money and you continue to beg for aid.

COVID-19 gave every country money except Ghana. In Ghana, our leaders connived with a Nigerian to steal from the poor people at the airport. So after COVID-19, they took their share and the Nigerian took all the money to his country. Then the government came to introduce the COVID-19 levy. With such wickedness you think you won’t do trumu trumu in this country? You will do trumu trumu,” he said.

Background
Ghana’s Parliament has passed the anti-gay bill today, February 28, 2024.

The bill will be sent to the President of Ghana who is expected to sign it into Law.

In the past few months, the president has refused to sign a private members bill passed by parliament because of a supposed financial obligation that comes with it.

Under the new bill, a maximum five-year jail term for forming or funding LGBTQ+ groups will be slapped on persons found guilty.
