24 year old defender is a new target for Chelsea – and financial twist could help the Blues and his club

Today saw another wave of rumours connecting Chelsea to Sporting Lisbon central defender Ousmane Diomande.

But according to Teamtalk, he’s not the only talented young defender the Blues have their eyes on.

They say that, surprisingly, Newcastle defender Sven Botman is also on the list.

The 24 year old is very highly regarded and crucially, now has some decent Premier League experience. He wouldn’t come cheap, but he’s a quality player.

There is an interesting twist here – Newcastle look like they’re going to need to sell players to meet their FFP and PSR thresholds. Chelsea are in a similar boat, but as we all know by now, the cost of buying a player can be spread out, while the money for selling one can be put in as a lump sum.

So Botman to Chelsea could help out Newcastle, while not outright crippling our budget.

It’s something to think about, anyway…
