You can simply massage coconut oil on your face in circular motions and wash your face in the morning. You can also use coconut oil to remove your stubborn makeup. You can just soak a cotton pad or ball in coconut oil and rub it on your face to remove makeup. But can people with oily skin also apply coconut oil on their faces? Is coconut oil effective for all skincare problems and all skin types?

In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr Seema Oberoi Lall, Consultant, Dermatology, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram explained the effectiveness of coconut oil as a skincare ingredient.

Benefits Of Coconut Oil On Face

According to Dr Lall, coconut oil is a popular natural product for many things but it may not be suitable for facial skin. Its thick consistency and comedogenic nature can potentially clog pores, leading to breakouts, especially for those with oily or acne-prone skin. Additionally, coconut oil may not provide enough hydration for individuals with very dry skin.

Choosing the right moisturiser depends on your skin type and specific needs. Water-based or non-comedogenic moisturisers are often recommended for oily or acne-prone skin, while those with dry skin may benefit from richer formulations. It’s essential to experiment with different products to find the one that works best for your skin.

Opting for non-comedogenic oils or water-based moisturisers is often a better choice for such skin types, as they provide hydration without the risk of increased breakouts. The comedogenic quality of coconut oil means the oil can trap dirt and oil, leading to breakouts for those with oily or acne-prone skin.

It can make the face excessively greasy. For someone with oily pimple-prone skin, this could lead to breakouts too. Even for those with dry skin, coconut oil will not be a complete moisturiser.
