Chelsea’s youth recruitment drive shows no signs of slowing down this summer

Chelsea’s youth recruitment drive is showing no signs of slowing down with Todd Bohely and Behdad Eghbali reportedly wanting to recruit two or three of the world’s best players under the age of 23 in each position.

Since Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over the club in May 2022 the recruitment strategy has been to sign the best young talent in the world.

The Blues have spent heavily on the likes of Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk as they aim to build a squad full of young stars.

The strategy sounds great in theory but is flawed as the Blues lack leadership, experience and consistency which is largely why they find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Pochettino has mentioned on several occasions the need for more experience and know how in the squad but it looks like the club will continue to sign young players this summer.

The Standard reports that Boehly and Eghbali want two or three of the world’s best players under the age of 23 in each position.

The same report has linked Chelsea with a move for Lille’s 18 year old centre back Leny Yoro as a potential replacement for Thiago Silva.

As well as a centre back Chelsea also want a left back and a striker and are expected to make room for any new arrivals by selling a host of academy graduates to help the club comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
