VIDEO: I was sold off in Egypt because I don’t speak English – Lady breaks down

Ghanaian woman Comfort Adu, who resides in Egypt, revealed that she was tricked into traveling there in search of a well-paying job. However, she has been unemployed for more than a year and was ultimately sold to another agent due to her poor command of English.

Comfort said in a conversation on SVTV AFRICA that she was hired when she first came, but the language barrier prevented her from keeping the position. Her agency had a hard time finding him a job, and in the end, she was left without a place to live and food.

“On my first day here, I found out from the other women that not knowing English would make it hard for me to acquire a job. I approached my agent about it, but he said no. I obtained a job a week later, but I had to quit since they didn’t feed me,” the woman remarked.

Comfort was eventually sold by her agency to another, who claimed the transaction was a training exercise for her next position. Comfort had to pay $2000 to have her passport returned after it was confiscated.

“He assured me that she would train me for my next job and teach me English.” I heard they sell people here, so I inquired whether he was going to do the same for me. He refuted it. She narrated, “The woman confirmed that he owed her, and I was to work and pay that debt off.”

Comfort claims that the agent offered her a GHS4000 job each month in Egypt in exchange for charging her GHS35,000. But she has been employed for more than a year.
