Chelsea target dominates aerial duels and club’s intentions are clear

Chelsea are apparently taking a look at Juventus defender Gleison Bremer.

The defender is older than most of our other reported targets, but it seems with Thiago Silva leaving we may be pushing for Bremer as an experienced option in the back line.

It’s interesting to see the FBRef numbers on his game compared to other centre backs in Europe’s top 5 leagues.

He’s strangely strong in an attacking sense, scoring in the 91st percentile for his non-penalty xG. He’s also just a tank in general, a huge hulking figure.

Defensively though, what really stands out is his aerial duels won per game, at a mighty 87th percentile. Almost 3 a game. That shows what Chelsea would be hoping for when they get him, a really dominant aerial player to add to a team which quite often looks like it lacks that side of the game.

He’s an experienced player, and those sorts of intangibles don’t show up in stats, and we can see why the club are interested, especially at a good price.
